Marriage Equality Rally Friday May 16th Noon

An organizer with the Humboldt Chapter of Marriage Equality, USA just announced (on KMUD News this evening) a rally in support of today's California Supreme Court ruling which struck down Prop. 22 as unconstitutional (which may lead to the legalization of marriage equality in the state). The ACLU of Northern California was staunchly opposed to Prop. 22 and celebrated today's ruling (as you can read all about at, although there is concern about a possible ballot measure in November which could amend the state constitution to re-install the ban.

The marriage equality event is set for tomorrow (Friday) at 11:45 a.m. at the County Courthouse in Eureka. Unlike Arcata and the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors, the City Council of Eureka rejected a resolution affirming support for marriage equality (despite an outpouring of support for the resolution from many community members, including some local Redwood ACLU activists), thus this continues to be an issue for this community to face. If you're in the Eureka area during lunch hour tomorrow, please come out and show your support for civil rights in our community!
